GUIDE 07

Check the finished installation

A professional closeout checks more than whether every box was opened. Review alignment, leveling, operation, cable routing, finish condition and the final room together.

The last pass is where the furniture, room and plan are checked as one finished installation.

Closeout is not a quick glance from the doorway. Walk the room in a consistent order, operate the moving parts and document anything that needs correction.

Start with the plan

Use the final approved furniture plan and confirm that stations, tables, storage and accessories are in the intended locations and orientations. Field conditions can force a change, but the change should be understood and documented, not discovered later.

A consistent closeout catches small issues while the plan, installers and site conditions are still in front of the team.

Check alignment and level

Look across connected worksurfaces, panel runs, table seams, storage tops and cabinet faces. Components should sit as intended without an obvious lean, uneven joint or unstable contact. Floors are not always level, so properly adjusted glides and supports matter.

Operate every moving part

Open doors and drawers. Test locks and keys. Move height-adjustable tables through their usable range. Check monitor arms, keyboard mechanisms, sliding components and mobile pedestals where included. Confirm that adjacent walls, furniture or cables do not block normal operation.

Review power and cable routing

Check that cords and data cables follow the planned path, remain protected and do not create trip hazards or interfere with moving furniture. Electrical and technology connections that are outside the furniture scope should be completed and tested by the responsible trades.

Inspect finishes in the room light

Look at surfaces, edges, fabric, paint and metal from more than one angle. Record scratches, chips, stains, missing trim or finish differences that need review. Also distinguish new product issues from pre-existing building conditions.

Closeout checks the full setting: furniture placement, clearances, operation and the condition of the finished room.

Create one punch list

Photograph each item, note its location and describe the issue clearly. Keep one shared list so the customer, project manager and installation team are working from the same record. A good punch list separates missing product, damaged product, adjustment work and building issues.

Confirm what happens next

Before the team leaves, identify any remaining items, who owns each item and how completion will be documented. Collect keys, product information and care instructions that are part of the handoff.
